Queensland Gaming Revenue Trend

January 2016 has shown an increase in gaming revenue growth for Queensland Hotels and Clubs compared to last year.

Total state gaming revenue has increased 3.10% on January 2015. 

The growth and decline that the gaming industry has experienced since July 2009 on a yearly month on month basis are illustrated in the following graphs:

Proposed Changes to Queensland Liquor Licencing Legislation from 1 July 2016

The Queensland Government has introduced a bill that will result in changes to the Liquor Licensing legislation with a view to the changes commencing  1 July 2016.

The changes are part of the Governments focus on reducing alcohol related violence

 While the changes are not yet finalised a number of the key changes are summarised below:

  •  Sale of Alcohol to cease at 2.00pm, with no lock out period except in safe night precincts.
  •  Safe night precincts boards will be able elect to trade to 2.00am without a lockout period or to 3.00am with a lockout time of 1.00am.
  •  Venues will be allowed to stay open past these times ( pending local government requirements) providing other services including gaming for up to 2 additional hours subject to approval.
  •  No new approvals from the sale of takeaway liquor past 10.00pm will be granted.
  •  Community Clubs will be able to sell takeaway liquor to guests and visitors and not just members
  •  There will be the ability to ban the sale  of high alcohol content drinks after 12 midnight
  •  The restriction of taking liquor into or away from events conducted under a commercial public event permit or community liquor permit – such as festivals and sporting events.

We have an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our small, but effective accounting team. The ideal candidate must have a proactive approach to work and be able to multi task. Reporting directly to the financial controller the responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

Key responsibilities:

  •  Process accounts payable/accounts received and payroll functions,
  • Daily bank reconciliations,
  • Complete daily banking requirements,
  • Complete daily takings sheets,
  • Complete accurate and timely week management reports for management meeting,
  • Balance sheet account reconciliations and schedules,
  • Assist with preparation of month end reporting,
  • Maintain asset register and depreciation schedules,
  • Complete monthly payroll tax,
  • Prepare accounts to trial balance in required,
  • All other ad hoc duties and project work as required.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Degree qualified in accounting or studying towards,
  • 2+ Years experience in a similar role,
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal and written,
  • Strong excel skill,
  • Ability to work well under pressure,
  • Time conscious, able to prioritise and work autonomously.
