Industry Update - May 2012 - No. 91

May 2012 has experienced positive gaming revenue growth for Queensland Hotels and Clubs.

Total state gaming revenue is up 7.5% on May 2011.

QLD Gaming Revenue Trend
Total State net metered win in Queensland gaming venues in May 2012 has increased by $11,210,892 or 7.5% when compared to May 2011.

The difference in State net metered win for May 2012 and May 2010 shows an increase of 11.1%

Central West, Far North, Fitzroy, Mackay, North West and South West experienced a double digit percentage increase when compared to May 2011.

West Moreton shows a decresed in the metered win from May 2011 to May 2012.

The growth and decline that the gaming industry (as a result of the 100% smoking ban introduced 1 July 2006 and economic factors) has experienced since July 2006 on a yearly month on month basis are illustrated in the following graph.

Gaming Machine Applications

Private Health Insurance Rebate Reductions
Did you know if you prepay your health insurance before July 2012 you can avoid the reduction in the 30% Private Health Insurance Rebate?

From 1 July 2012, the 30% health insurance rebate will be means tested.  For families earning up to $168,000 and singles earning up to $84,000 the 30% rebate will still apply, however if you fall above these limits, the rebate will start to phase out.

Most Private Health Insurance are allowing customers to prepay up to one year of private health insurance before July 2012, meaning they can still receive the 30% rebate as part of their fees.  This can mean a significant saving on the premium for the 2012 year.  

It is suggested you speak with your Private Health Insurance company asap and arrange to prepay your insurance for up to 12 months.

Superannuation Concessional Contributions Cap

Are you over 50 and wanting to make additional contributions to your superannuation fund?

From 1 July 2012, for people over the age of 50, the concessional contribution cap will be reduced from $50,000 to $25,000.  Make any additioanl contributions to your superannuation fund before 30 June 2012 to take advantage o fthe higher concessional cap.

Small Business Concessions
Is your turnover $2million or less this year? If so, you may be eligible for the Small Business Entity Concessions for depreciable assets.

There are a number of changes to the Small Business Concessions system for depreciating assets from 1 July 2012.  Eligible small businesses will be able to claim an immediate write-off for all assets purchased for $6,500 or less and all motor vehicle will be eligible for $5,000 immediate deduction in the year of purchase.
